2.5.1 Pointer Gestures Level A

All functionality that uses multipoint or path-based gestures for operation can be operated with a single pointer without a path-based gesture, unless a multipoint or path-based gesture is essential.

*This requirement applies to web content that interprets pointer actions (i.e. this does not apply to actions that are required to operate the user agent or assistive technology).

Testing & Remediation

How to test: Open your website or application and test each functionality looking for path or multipoint gestures. If one exists, ensure there is an alternative way to complete the same functionality (think Google Maps - pinch to zoom and the +/- buttons or a slider that can be operated using cursor keys). How to remediate:
  • Do not rely on path-based gestures
  • Do not rely on multipoint gestures
  • Provide controls that do not require complex gestures and perform the same function as complex gestures
  • Single-point activation for spatial positioning and manipulation
