Job Overview
At Accessible Web, we empower organizations to make the digital world accessible for everyone. As a Digital Accessibility Specialist, you’ll play a key role in driving our mission forward, helping businesses meet compliance requirements while fostering inclusive digital experiences. Your day-to-day will involve evaluating websites, apps, and digital content for WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliance, consulting with clients, and supporting ongoing accessibility initiatives.
You’ll collaborate with our internal teams and clients to diagnose issues, provide actionable recommendations, and assist in remediation efforts. Whether you are guiding a development team on best practices or supporting content creators with accessible design workflows, your expertise will make an immediate impact in ensuring equitable digital access.
If you are passionate about accessibility, skilled in WCAG auditing, and ready to help organizations create meaningful change, this role is a perfect fit for you.
Principle Responsibilities
- Auditing & Testing – Audit client websites and web apps for WCAG conformance through both manual tests and automated scans using the Accessible Web suite of tools.
- Results Reporting – Deliver audit results via Accessible Web RAMP (our platform) and Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) via email. Results will often be reviewed directly with the customer.
- Remediation Consulting – Provide technical guidance to clients (ranging in size) to help remove accessibility barriers from their content and UI components.
- “Shift Left” Consulting – Advise clients on incorporating accessibility throughout digital projects, such as during planning, design, development, quality assurance, and user testing processes.
- Client Management – Provide excellent customer service to assigned RAMP Pro+ subscribers to help them meet their accessibility goals with support, best practices, and more.
- Client Training – Planning, researching, and leading webinar-style trainings on web accessibility topics.
- User Testing – Plan and moderate user testing sessions with users with disabilities who have lived experience with various assistive technologies.
- Content Creation – Write and publish content for our blog, knowledge base, and Academy courses.
Qualifications
- WCAG Auditing Experience – We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of WCAG success criteria and how to audit/test against them.
- Technical Experience – We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of web development technologies and how they impact the user experience. Experience with HTML is required but developing user interfaces is not.
- Communication Skills – You should be able to clearly and effectively communicate with both our team and customers in a written and verbal fashion. Your writing skills should show a high attention to detail and your verbal communication should be formal. You should have the ability to communicate complex topics succinctly. It is crucial that the Digital Accessibility Specialist is able to describe WCAG failures & their recommended remediation techniques in a clear and concise manner.
- Assistive Technology Experience – Auditing and testing websites involves testing interfaces and validating that they conform to WCAG requirements. Some of the tests include using a screen reader such as VoiceOver or NVDA. A high level of experience using these technologies is required.
- Organized and Disciplined – We are looking for someone with strong organizational skills and the ability to focus on tasks for extended periods of time. Billable hours are to be logged and the status of projects are to be reported during team calls and via our progress reporting system.
