Are landmarks required? Do you have to have landmarks to comply with WCAG?
Answer
Under our interpretation of WCAG 2.1 AA, a page's main content must be contained within a main landmark. Additionally, whenever landmarks are used, they must have the correct ARIA role for the content that they hold. Read more about ARIA landmark regions here. We highly recommend using landmarks whenever it is appropriate to do so.
