When is it and when is it not appropriate to have skip links on your content on the page?
Question
Answer
If there are large blocks of repetitive content, you want to add a skip link. Most commonly, you'll see them as a "skip to main content" link right above the header so you can skip over all of the menu options using just your keyboard and go straight to the main content. If you have an exceptionally large footer, you could also include a "skip footer content" skip link to take you past all of that content. That helps reduce the amount of stuff you have to tap through. It also really helps decrease the amount of feedback from a screen reader if someone already knows where they want to go on the page, or they know they don't want to sort through all of that repetitive content.
