What is a VPAT?
A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) communicates the level of accessibility of a digital product. It is needed to comply with accessibility laws and regulations such as ADA, Section 508, and the EAA. This standardized document, developed by the Information Technology Industry Council, details a product’s accessibility-supporting features and functionalities. The template also outlines conformance with accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

These two terms are often used interchangeably.

- Used for external communication and marketability.
- ACR (Accessibility Conformance Report): an evaluation and documentation of a product’s accessibility, including detailed testing results and recommendations.
- Used during development and to ensure compliance during the product’s lifecycle.
